About the Artist

Cecelia is an artist who lives in New York. When Cecelia was in the second grade she became very sick with the swine flu. Her parents weren’t sure what was happening and brought her to the hospital. For three months she was put in a medicated coma in an attempt to navigate the effects of the disease on her brain (which we continue working to learn more about). This drastically changed her life and the lives around her.

Cecelia is triumphant and has shown progress every single day. She brings light to everywhere she goes. With limitations of communication and expression, art has been Cecelia's way of connecting to the world and to people. When she isn't out pursuing her passion for photography and the arts, she works in environments adjacent to it. You can find her working with Lincoln Center and working at PS6 as an Associate Teacher . This website allows Cecelia to have more connections in the world and gives her a sense of pride and independence.

We are incredibly grateful for the help of doctors, the love of family and friends, and you. Thank you for taking the time to look at her work made from her love of life. Proceeds made from this website will go directly to Cecelia and 25% toward research dedicated to epilepsy.

“I like to make almost any kind of art. I make mostly drawings, paintings with watercolor and tape, Perler beads, yarn art, shakers, taking photos, and making birthday cards for people who special order. I like to make art because I feel calm and also to get money. I feel happy when someone likes my art. I like to draw anything especially rainbows and trees. I want people to feel proud and happy when they see my art.”  - Cecelia
