About the Artist

Cecelia is a New York–based artist whose life changed dramatically in second grade when she became severely ill with the swine flu. She spent three months in a medically induced coma as doctors worked to understand and manage its effects on her brain. Despite the lasting impact, Cecelia has shown remarkable resilience, making steady progress and bringing positivity to those around her.

With limited communication and expression, Cecelia has found a powerful outlet in art, using it to connect with others and the world. She pursues photography and creative work while also working with organizations like Lincoln Center and as an associate teacher at PS6. Her website helps expand her connections and independence, and proceeds from her work support both her and epilepsy research.

“I like to make almost any kind of art. I make mostly drawings, paintings with watercolor and tape, Perler beads, yarn art, shakers, taking photos, and making birthday cards for people who special order. I like to make art because I feel calm and also to get money. I feel happy when someone likes my art. I like to draw anything especially rainbows and trees. I want people to feel proud and happy when they see my art.”  - Cecelia
